Reading the Tea Leaves is made from naturally weathered pieces of wood and fractured stone. I am drawn to these materials for the textures and marks they carry, each fragment holding evidence of weather, time, and the physical world from which it came.

I am fascinated by our human tendency to search for patterns and create meaning from what we see. We look at the natural world and find connections, images, stories, and relationships within it. For me, art becomes a vehicle for this way of seeing, allowing fragments of the physical world to become something more through our imagination and interpretation.

Reading the Tea Leaves is an exploration of our connection to nature and our desire to make meaning from the world around us. It invites us to look closely, to find our own patterns, and to consider what we bring to the act of seeing.

Cherry and weathered wood with stone and paint. 35 x 35 x 3 in.

Made to order, please allow 6–8 weeks. This piece is an original, hand-carved work based on a design I've created before. While the composition is consistent, each piece is individually made and may vary slightly in color, grain, and detail.

Handmade at the studio

Thrown by hand, finished by fire

Every piece is wheel-thrown from stoneware and glazed by hand in our studio. This one wears our signature finish, so slight variation in tone and texture is part of it, never a flaw. No two are exactly alike.
