Remember the Bees is a contemporary approach to mosaic combining weathered wood marked by sun, wind, frost, and time with glass forms shaped using the ancient technique of flint knapping. For me, making stone tools feels like a direct link to our ancestors and a reminder of how humans have always changed and shaped our environment.
The river-like forms came from a dream in which I found myself standing in the flow of time, connected to those who came before me. I am curious about how our ancestors understood their place within the natural world, not simply through what they made, but through their relationship with the living systems that surrounded and sustained them. Their sense of themselves as part of those systems feels very different from the relationship with nature that shapes much of contemporary Western culture.
The bee is a reminder of our profound interdependence with the living world. We rely on bees and countless other species, yet our actions can negatively affect the environments we share with them. I believe our ability to shape the world is not inherently destructive. It also gives us the responsibility and opportunity to express a more thoughtful relationship with the living systems we are part of.
Remember the Bees is a reflection on that responsibility, and a reminder that we can choose to do better.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth or feather duster. Avoid direct sunlight and high-humidity environments, which can cause wood to expand, contract, or fade over time. If you have questions about caring for your specific piece, feel free to reach out.

Because each piece is thrown and glazed by hand, small differences in size, tone, and surface are natural. The variation is the signature of something made by a person, not a machine.
