Traces In Stone

Traces in Stone is made from weathered wood that carries the marks of sun, wind, and rain, along with fragments of flint and obsidian, the remnants of stone tools.

For me, these traces are a symbolic connection between our present-day lives and the very tactile lives of our ancient ancestors. The simple act of fracturing stone to make a tool is one of the most fundamental expressions of human ingenuity. From that beginning, an extraordinary history of making, adapting, and changing our environment has unfolded.

I am drawn to this connection not simply as a history of what humans have made, but as a reminder that human technologies have always been used to shape the living world. The question for me is how we carry that capacity forward, and what kind of relationship we choose to have with the rest of the living world.

Made to order, please allow 6–8 weeks. This piece is an original, hand-carved work based on a design I've created before. While the composition is consistent, each piece is individually made and may vary slightly in color, grain, and detail.

Shipping: UPS

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth or feather duster. Avoid direct sunlight and high-humidity environments, which can cause wood to expand, contract, or fade over time. If you have questions about caring for your specific piece, feel free to reach out.

Most pieces are made to order, with a lead time of 6-8 weeks (up to 3 months for larger or more complex work). If you need a piece by a specific date, please get in touch before ordering so we can confirm timing.

Flatter wall pieces ship via UPS. Larger sculptural and freight-shipped pieces are quoted individually, contact us for a shipping quote.
